SHORTBUS

~~~~~~~~~~~
Shortbus is a 2006 comedy-drama film written and directed by John Cameron Mitchell. The plot revolves around a sexually diverse ensemble of colorful characters trying desperately to connect in New York City. A group of New Yorkers get caught up in their romantic-sexual milieu converge at an underground salon infamous for its blend of art, music, politics, and carnality.
Storyline:
Numerous New York City-dwellers come to the exclusive club Shortbus to work out problems in their sexual relationships. Rob and Sophia are a happily married couple, except for the fact that she has never experienced sexual climax. This irony follows her to work, because she is a couples counselor who frequently has to deal with the sexual issues other couples have. Two of her patients are Jamie and James, a gay couple who have been monogamous for five years and counting. James wants to bring other men in to the relationship, and his own history with depression may hint at an ulterior motive. Ceth (Pronounced like Seth) may be the perfect addition to their family, but Caleb, a voyeur from across the street, may have his own ideas about that. Sophia visits Severin, a dominatrix with secrets of her own to reveal.
QVIEW presents- Philadelphia
TIME:
Sept 17, 2011, Saturday
2PM - 5PM
LOCATION:
Naz Foundation's Milan Center
A-20 Basement
Lajpat Nagar III
New Delhi
------------------------------------------------------------------------
QueerCampus invites you to the screening of the movie, Philadelphia.
Philadelphia is a 1993 American drama film that was one of the first mainstream Hollywood films to acknowledge HIV/AIDS, homosexuality and homophobia. Andrew Beckett (Tom Hanks), a hotshot law graduate from Penn, has a promising career ahead of him when he discovers that he has AIDS and is fired by his conservative law firm because of his condition. He takes his case to a number of lawyers, including Joe Miller (Denzel Washington), none of whom is willing to represent him - until Miller has a change of heart, recognizing a hint of familiar discrimination in the way Andrew is being treated.
Run time: 125 minutes
------------------------------------------------------------------
India has among the highest number of persons living with HIV/AIDS in the world today. The stigma associated with HIV/AIDS and lack of awareness not only makes it more difficult for people trying to come to terms with HIV and manage their illness on a personal level, but it also interferes with attempts to fight the AIDS epidemic as a whole. It makes them reluctant to access HIV testing, treatment and care. It is an issue that cuts across gender, class, caste and sexual orientation. Young people have numerous misconceptions about HIV and are also at persistent risk for HIV infection.
At QueerCampus, we are looking forward to conduct a series of HIV/AIDS awareness programs which will include movie and documentary screenings, discussions, interaction with counselors, skits and theatre sessions, real life stories of people living with HIV and an HIV testing drive. Educating young people about HIV/AIDS reduces the risk of infection and helps to dispel stigma and discrimination. Let us come together in this effort!
QueerCampus brings to you another event to watch, learn, experience, share and discuss as we unroll some Queer Reels, called "QIEW- The Queer View".
QIEW presents,
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A Broadway Matinee- Into The Woods

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Into the Woods is a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine. The musical intertwines the plots of several Brothers Grimm fairy tales and follows them further to explore the consequences of the characters' wishes and quests. The main characters are taken from the stories of Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel, and Cinderella, tied together by a more original story involving a baker and his wife and their quest to begin a family. It also includes references to several other well-known tales.
The show covers multiple themes: growing up, parents and children, accepting responsibility, morality, and finally, wish fulfillment and its consequences.The whole idea of the play is basically a look into Human Nature via archetypes everyone is most familiar with - fairytale characters. It's about questioning our beliefs, or moralities, the things we've been told by parents for centuries…after all, that's what being Queer is all about.
William A. Henry III wrote that the play's "basic insight ... is at heart, most fairy tales are about the loving yet embattled relationship between parents and children. Almost everything that goes wrong — which is to say, almost everything that can — arises from a failure of parental or filial duty, despite the best intentions. James Lapine said that the most unpleasant person (the Witch) would have the truest things to say and the "nicer" people would be less honest. In the Witch's words: "I'm not good; I'm not nice; I'm just right".
Runtime:- 153 minutes (2 hours, 33 minutes)
The screening will be preceded by an introduction by Zorian Cross, and there shall be a discussion during the Act 1 intermission, and the end of the show as well.
Enrich us with ur presence and together, let's QIEW! ;)
